Adventure: La Romería

Hey guys, looooong time no see! I haven't forgotten about this blog at all, but I just wasn't sure what I want to do with it exactly yet, and I don't want to promise something and then not keep up with it. I'm planning on posting the following things:

  • Adventures!: If I go out and do anything new or interesting, to take you guys along with me as well.
  • Best of Food: If I find a place and I LOVE the food, I'll leave the place here, some review, and my favorite dishes to order.
  • Recipes: I like to cook as well, so if I'm ever about to make something new, look forward to the recipe here! :)
That being said, today's and Adventure post!

Basically, this is a religious sacrifice. If you know anything about the bible, or the Catholic church, Jesus sacrificed himself for the sake of the people.
Now whether you're religious or not isn't the point of this, I decided to go for it since I love walking around and exploring, besides you never know if God is actually watching right?

What you have to do is the following, walk to a church in the city of Cartago in Costa Rica. You won't get lost because the roads are shut down for the people, the amount of people that are actually walking there is incredible. You see all types of people walking as well, children, mothers with their baby strollers, even the elderly. I actually happened to witness and elderly man who was so close to reaching the church, he had been running and actually broke his bone. I could see the bone from underneath his knee popping out. Either way he kept going, the faith people has is incredible.

I didn't know, but you don't have to be Costa Rican to do this journey, I saw North Americans, and from nearing countries such as Panama and Nicaragua, walking for days to reach the church.

Along the way there are stalls that offer you water and some free items, such as sample perfumes, items for us ladies, I even saw someone giving out toilet paper. And places to get massages and eat as well.
If you're ever in the mood to go through with this, you should definitely pack your own toilet paper, water, umbrella, sweater, and extra cash. Always make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes that you can walk hours in!

People usually go around August 1st or 2nd, but some people go before to avoid the crowds, or because they live very far, or after. And incredibly many people go during the night time, no worries that there are all types of lights illuminating the way!

Thanks for reading, see you in my next post, bye!!
